Our next stop was the Skibdladner , a replica longship in Haroldswick . The ship was abandoned in Shetland waters. It seems at home here. It is part of our viking past.
Vikings those barbaric raiders who laid waste to anything they came in contact with. But Vikings were no better or worse than many other visitors to our shores. Many were traders , farmers, husbands, kinsfolk. Strong men with rough hands from oars and ropes and work.
Now local people are restoring the longship , making it a focal point for tourists .
