Metafari Program

Join the Metafari!

  • Combine different qualities of developing, photography and writing!
  • Connect with other people from many backgrounds and countries!
  • Create marvellous metaphors together!

The Metafari is taking place at a symbolic destination. Returning to where humanity once started, to explore metaphors we need to understand our future. The Metafari takes place in Tanzania, a country in positive development with an economic growth rate equalling that of India.

We are doing this in cooperation with Tanga International Conference Centre (TICC). TICC is founded and built by Norwegians in cooperation with the local community of Tanga.

By living at the Centre and participating in activities around TICC you can be assured that the money you spend goes into development of the Tanga Region.

Not only will you learn from the people you meet in and around Tanga, but by participating in activities you will also be contributing to the ongoing learning in the region around entrepreneurship, tourism development, course management etc.
This is a mutually learning experience!

When?

Metafari participants will gather at Hotel Peacock, Dar es Salaam in the evening of Saturday, November 24. The Metafari starts at sunrise in the morning of Sunday, November 25th in Dar es Salam, Tanzania. It ends after sunset Friday, November 30th in Tanga, Tanzania.
From Saturday December 1 you are on your own. See more information below on possible activities.

How to get there?

You can fly direct from London with British Airways, from Amsterdam with KLM and from Zurich with Swiss. Price around €900
Ethiopian Airways is an alternative and usually with the best price (around €800). Stopover in Addis Ababa. http://www.ethiopianairlines.com

Post Metafari

After the Metarafari you could connect to colleagues in Tanzania or visit offices & work places. Schools, medical centers, local businesses, farming or industries.
Continue to the islands of Zanzibar, Pemba or Mafia. Or head into the magnificent nature of Serengeti, Ngurunguru or Kilimanjaro.
Tell us your dreams! Tanga International Conference Centre might have the connections and resources to help you fulfil them.

Values and principles

This invitation is focused mainly at people with an interest in Strength Based development. We, who organize the Metafari have a common ground in the thought models of Appreciative Inquiry & strength based Change. This is not a traditional course; it’s a journey where we all are teachers and learners.

  • We are inquiring curiously, constantly looking for what works well
  • We are always in a learning position, learning from each other and from the people we meet
  • We are valuing a diversity of perspectives, realizing that "reality" is only a matter of perspective
  • We are always looking out to tell good stories of what we see, curiously also exploring what we don’t see.
  • We are looking out for metaphors that can guide us in finding images of the future we dream about.

Will there be more?

There will be more Metafaris. We have already scheduled two for March. But this first one will be a unique experience. Wouldn’t you want to be the first explorer!

Registration & Questions

For each Metafari there is a maximum of 20 people. With more applicants than 20 we will prioritize diversity in selecting. We want max 5 people from each country.
This is a blog and we appreciate feedback through the "comment" function in the blog.

I just read the concept and content of the Metafari. Though I've heard about it before, I'm stunned! This seems to be a once upon a lifetime-experience. What a programme. The part about Values etc. adds something extra that normally not is found in exploring trips.
I would have loved to join you!
